Audit Your Meta Ads with Claude: 20 Prompts

  • By Praveen Jha · Updated 2026-10-23 · 7 min read · Paid ads & marketing

Connect the Meta Ads MCP, then find what is wasting your budget - in one sentence, and in one chat.

For developers, media buyers and account managers

You -> Claude -> Meta Ads MCP -> Your Meta ad account

What this guide does

Once the connector is linked, Claude can read your Meta ad account - campaigns, ad sets, audiences, catalog and delivery status - and answer audit questions in plain English. You do not need to open Ads Manager, export CSVs, or build reports to get the first diagnosis.

The 20 prompts in this guide are grouped by job: account health, delivery and auction problems, spend history, peer benchmarks, competitor research, and audiences and catalog. Five bonus prompts cover change history, Dynamic Ads, A/B tests, Page permissions and duplicate catalogs.

Setup in 6 steps

Do this once. After the connector is linked, every prompt in this guide runs in a normal Claude chat against the accounts you selected.

  1. Find the MCP URL. Open Meta's Ads MCP page on developers.facebook.com and locate the Meta Ads MCP URL.
  2. Open the connector picker in Claude. Go to Customize -> Connectors -> "+". Select "Add custom connector".
  3. Name it and paste the URL. Name the connector Meta and paste: https://mcp.facebook.com/ads
  4. Add and register. Click Add, then choose "Sign in now" and "Register automatically" in the next pop-up.
  5. Connect and log in. Click Connect and complete the Meta login in your browser to link your ad account(s). Make sure you are logged in to Facebook in that browser.
  6. Choose access. Select which ad accounts or Pages Claude can access. Limit this to the accounts you actually want audited.

Before you start: Prompts 4-6 and 12-13 analyze recent trends and peer benchmarks. They work best on accounts with steady spend in the last 7-30 days. On a paused or low-spend account they may come back with "no issues found".

First test after connecting

Start with Prompt 20 - it is read-only and confirms the link is working:

  1. List every ad account I have access to, and tell me which are active vs. dormant.

If Claude lists the accounts you selected in Step 6, the connector is live. If it lists nothing, re-check Step 5 (browser logged in to the correct Facebook account) and Step 6 (account selection), then disconnect and reconnect the Meta connector.

Safety notes for account managers

Treat every audit answer as a diagnosis, not an instruction - verify the finding in Ads Manager before pausing, editing or scaling anything.

  • Only grant Claude the ad accounts and Pages it needs. Access can be narrowed in the connector settings.

Prompts 14-16 read Meta's public Ad Library, not your account, so they are safe to run at any time.

  • If access is no longer needed, disconnect the Meta connector in Customize -> Connectors.

Prompts 1-3: Account health check

Run these first. They surface the account's Opportunity Score, anything blocked from delivering, and silent problems that do not show up as an obvious error.

  1. What's my account's Opportunity Score, and what are the top 3 changes that would raise it the most?
  2. Are any of my ads or ad sets currently blocked from delivering, and why?
  3. Is anything - payment method, catalog, or pixel - silently hurting my delivery right now?

Prompts 4-6: Delivery and auction diagnostics

_Best on accounts with active, recent spend._

  1. Check my account for auction overlap, creative fatigue, or narrow-audience issues.
  2. Which of my ads are losing in the auction, and is it bid or ad quality?
  3. Flag anything that moved more than 20% week-over-week in CPC, CPM, CTR, or ROAS.

How to read the answers: Prompt 4 tells you the type of problem, Prompt 5 tells you whether the fix is budget/bid or creative quality, and Prompt 6 tells you what changed most recently. Act on the overlap and fatigue findings before raising budgets - more spend into a fatigued or overlapping setup usually makes the numbers worse, not better.

Prompts 7-11: Spend and performance history

_Works on any account, live or dormant._

  1. Show me all my campaigns sorted by total spend since day one.
  2. Which ad sets spent over $50 in the last 30 days but have a CTR under 1%?
  3. Show me my top 5 ad sets by ROAS in the last 7 days, minimum 50 clicks.
  4. List every campaign that's active but hasn't spent anything in 3 days.
  5. Compare this month's spend to last month's, campaign by campaign.

Prompts 12-13: Peer benchmarks

_Best on accounts with active, recent spend._

  1. How does my cost per result compare to similar advertisers in my spend tier?
  2. Is my CTR above or below typical for accounts optimizing for the same goal?

Developer note: Prompt 8 is the fastest waste finder in this set - $50 spent with CTR under 1% in 30 days. Prompt 9 protects you from the opposite mistake: scaling an ad set on ROAS from too few clicks. Keep the "minimum 50 clicks" condition when you reuse it.

Prompts 14-16: Competitor research

_Always works. This pulls from Meta's public Ad Library, not your account._

  1. Show me active ads from [competitor page] running right now, and summarize their angles.
  2. Search the Ad Library for ads about [my product/topic] in [country] - what hooks keep showing up?
  3. How many advertisers are running ads for [keyword], and who's most active?

Replace the square-bracket placeholders - [competitor page], [my product/topic], [country] and [keyword] - before you run these prompts.

Prompts 17-20: Audiences, Instagram and catalog

  1. List every custom audience in this account and flag any that look stale or too small.
  2. Which Instagram accounts are linked here, and which posts could I boost?
  3. Audit my product catalog - flag items with missing images, broken links, or feed errors.
  4. List every ad account I have access to, and tell me which are active vs. dormant.

Bonus prompts

Five extra checks. Run them after the main 20.

Change history - What changes have been made to my account or campaigns in the last 30 days, and who made them?

Dynamic Ads - Is my catalog properly connected for Dynamic Ads - any pixel or visibility issues?

Experiments - Do I have any A/B tests or lift studies running right now, and which one is winning?

Page permissions - Which Facebook Pages can I actually run ads from, and have they accepted the Lead Ads terms?

Duplicate catalogs - Do I have duplicate product catalogs that could be splitting my ad performance?

Run your first audit in 15 minutes

OrderDo this
1. HealthRun Prompts 1-3. Fix blocked delivery and payment, catalog or pixel issues first.
2. DeliveryRun Prompts 4-6. Note overlap, fatigue and the biggest week-over-week moves.
3. SpendRun Prompts 7-11. List waste (Prompt 8) and stalled actives (Prompt 10) for action.
4. ContextRun Prompts 12-16 only if the account qualifies - recent spend for benchmarks, any time for Ad Library.
5. AssetsRun Prompts 17-20 and the bonus set. Clean stale audiences and catalog errors last.

Pre-flight checklist

Meta connector added in Claude with the URL from Step 3, and the correct Facebook account logged in.

Only the ad accounts and Pages to be audited were selected in Step 6.

Account has steady spend in the last 7-30 days if I plan to use Prompts 4-6 or 12-13, and placeholders in Prompts 14-16 are replaced.

Every finding will be verified in Ads Manager before any budget or campaign change.
