Plan an Email Campaign with Claude and Mailchimp

The prompt that builds a two-week campaign plan in about 5 minutes - connect Mailchimp to Claude, fill in seven fields, and get a multi-email plan you can review before anything is sent.

Who this is for: Marketers, founders and developers supporting a launch, promotion or re-engagement campaign.

What you need: A Claude account, a Mailchimp account, and the Mailchimp connector enabled in Claude.

Time to first plan: About 5 minutes once connected.

Output: A multi-campaign plan - a few emails, social posts, and possibly SMS - not a single standalone newsletter.

How to use this guide

  1. Connect Mailchimp to Claude (page 3).
  2. Copy the master prompt exactly (page 4).
  3. Fill every field using the field guide (page 5).
  4. Run it, then review the plan with the checklist (page 6) before creating or sending anything in Mailchimp.

1. What this builds - and what it does not

This is a planning prompt, not a single-email generator. Used as written, it asks Claude to create a marketing campaign plan in Mailchimp for a defined brand, product, audience and time period.

Expect a plan that can include

  • A sequence of a few emails spread across the time period you specify - for example, the next two weeks.
  • Supporting social posts tied to the same campaign theme.
  • SMS, where that fits the campaign and your Mailchimp setup.
  • A design direction and tone applied consistently across the pieces, based on the style and tone fields in the prompt.

Do not expect: a single standalone newsletter. If you only need one email, say so explicitly when you adapt the prompt - otherwise Claude will build the broader multi-campaign plan this prompt is designed for.

Why the inputs matter

Claude can only plan well from what you give it. Brand name, product, audience size and time period are the essential inputs. Without them, Claude will ask follow-up questions instead of producing the plan straight away - which costs the time this prompt is meant to save.

Developer note: Treat the prompt on page 4 as a template. Keep the field labels and brackets unchanged in shared docs and internal tools, so anyone on the team fills it in the same way every time.

Before you start: connect Mailchimp to Claude

Connect Mailchimp to Claude first. The prompt assumes Claude can already see your Mailchimp account.

  1. Open Connectors in Claude. Go to Customize, then Connectors.
  2. Find Mailchimp. Search for "Mailchimp" in the connectors list.
  3. Connect and authorize. Follow the connector's sign-in and authorization prompts for your Mailchimp account.
  4. Confirm the connection. Start a new chat and confirm Mailchimp is available before pasting the campaign prompt.

Order matters: Connect first, prompt second. If Mailchimp is not connected, Claude cannot build the plan in Mailchimp - it can only draft text for you to copy across manually.

Pre-flight checklist

  • Mailchimp account is active and you can sign in to it.
  • You know your subscriber count (audience size) - check it in Mailchimp if unsure.
  • You know what you are launching or promoting, in one line.
  • You know the campaign window: next 2 weeks, next month, or specific dates.
  • You have a design reference in mind, described in words (optional).

The master prompt - copy it exactly

Copy the prompt below, replace every bracketed field, and paste it into Claude after Mailchimp is connected.

Copy-ready text

Create a marketing campaign plan in Mailchimp for [BRAND NAME], a [TYPE OF BUSINESS /
INDUSTRY].

We're launching/promoting: [PRODUCT OR SERVICE NAME + ONE-LINE DESCRIPTION]

Audience size: [NUMBER OF SUBSCRIBERS]

Time period: [E.G. "NEXT 2 WEEKS" / "NEXT MONTH" / SPECIFIC DATES]

Campaign goal/theme: [E.G. PRODUCT LAUNCH, SEASONAL PROMO, RE-ENGAGEMENT,
ANNOUNCEMENT]

Design style reference (optional): [DESCRIBE THE LOOK YOU WANT - e.g. "bold color-
block hero section, product photography, benefit icons with bold keywords, dark
footer with nav links"]

Tone: [E.G. PLAYFUL, PREMIUM, URGENT, MINIMAL]

This is the Praveen's Guide prompt. Keep the wording and field order exactly as shown when you share it with a team, so every campaign is briefed the same way.

Essential fields: Brand name, product, audience size and time period. Leave any of these blank and Claude will ask follow-ups before it can build the plan.

How to fill each field

FieldHow to fill it well
Brand name + type of businessName the brand and its industry in the same line, e.g. brand name plus "a [type of business / industry]". This sets the context for every suggestion that follows.
Launching / promotingProduct or service name plus a one-line description. One line is enough - do not paste a full product page.
Audience sizeThe number of subscribers the campaign will go to. Use the real count from Mailchimp.
Time period"Next 2 weeks", "next month", or specific dates. This is the window the plan is spread across.
Campaign goal / themePick the intent: product launch, seasonal promo, re-engagement, or announcement - or state your own theme in the same spirit.
Design style reference (optional)Works best as a written description of a layout you like. For example: "bold color-block hero section, product photography, benefit icons with bold keywords, dark footer with nav links".
TonePlayful, premium, urgent, minimal - or your own word. You may leave it blank: it then defaults to something sensible for your industry.

Worked example (illustrative)

Copy-ready text

Create a marketing campaign plan in Mailchimp for Bloom Tea Co, a direct-to-consumer
tea brand.
We're launching/promoting: Winter Spice Collection - a limited range of three spiced
teas for the cold season
Audience size: 4,200
Time period: Next 2 weeks
Campaign goal/theme: Product launch
Design style reference (optional): bold color-block hero section, product
photography, benefit icons with bold keywords, dark footer with nav links
Tone: Premium

The example above is an illustration created for this guide to show a completed template. Replace every line with your own campaign details.

Run it, review it, then send

  1. Paste the completed prompt into Claude. Use a chat where the Mailchimp connector is active.
  2. Answer any follow-ups briefly. Follow-ups usually mean a field was blank or unclear - note which one, so you can pre-fill it next time.
  3. Review the plan as a plan first. Check the number of emails, their order, the dates across your time period, and whether social posts or SMS belong in this campaign.
  4. Check every draft before it is used. Subject lines, product name and description, links, dates and any offer details must match the real campaign.
  5. Approve in Mailchimp before sending. Review the final version inside Mailchimp itself, and send a test to yourself first.

Review checklist

  • Brand name, product name and one-line description are correct everywhere.
  • Send dates fall inside the time period you specified.
  • Audience size and segment match the list you intend to mail.
  • Tone is consistent across emails, social posts and any SMS.
  • Design matches the style description you gave - or is acceptable if you left it blank.
  • No placeholder brackets [LIKE THIS] remain in any draft.

Troubleshooting

ProblemFix
Claude asks follow-up questions instead of planningA required field is missing. Add brand name, product, audience size and time period, then re-run.
Claude cannot access MailchimpReconnect: Customize - Connectors - search "Mailchimp", then start a fresh chat.
Output is a single email, not a planRestate that you want a multi-campaign plan across your time period, with supporting social posts.
Design looks genericAdd the optional design style line as a written description of a layout you like.
Tone feels wrongSet the tone field explicitly (playful, premium, urgent, minimal) instead of leaving it blank.
